It’s no secret that Zara developed something of a reputation over her time in South Africa, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Ashleigh Nefdt.
Said reputation pertained to being the place where everyone seemed to find the most gorgeous pieces – but when you’d go on the hunt to add to your own collection, it felt like exactly that – a hunt. For the inexperienced and sometimes even experienced navigator, a trip to Zara could easily be a hit, where you walk away with a divine overflow of unique pieces, or a miss because you simply couldn’t find what your mind’s eye imagined.
Was the inconsistency of an excursion to Zara your fault? Their fault? Largely in my opinion, it was to do with the store’s layout.
This is precisely what makes the reopening and Zara makeover so exciting. Zara has switched up their store layout and voyaged further into space and beauty (in light of their beauty section).
The revamped store sees enlargement across two floors. You can peruse more freely, and the space will make finding your latest adorations a lot easier. This omnichannel model also allows movers and shakers in fashion to do what they do best – find their favourites, but without spending hours doing so. It’s minimalistic and almost touches on a high-end boutique energy – fitting for the brand that touches on replicating high-end wear in the first place.
According to Retaillistings, Zara’s latest store concept also comes with integration into the digital world via Zara.com. Digitalised and differentiated, the tech means focusing on sustainability. As we know, the sustainable tag in fashion is the most important tag of all.

In essence, the Spanish retailer’s makeover matters for a few reasons, but I’ll stick to my top three:
1. It shows us that Zara is willing to come to the party when it comes to the ease of an in-store experience, and has opted to integrate this with an online presence to match.
2. Through a minimalist design, we see that Zara understood the assignment in terms of alleviating the troubles their previous layout painted for consumers.
3. By opting for a boutique look, they also make the move to quality over quantity – an avenue of slow fashion.
