Shannon Elizabeth, star of 1999’s American Pie, has once again spoken about her affection for South Africa, sharing a heartfelt message on social media that resonated with fans who know just how easy it is to fall in love with the Mother City, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Posting a photo from Cape Town on Instagram, Elizabeth reflected on the peace she experiences whenever she returns. ‘There’s something about being here that instantly makes me slow down, breathe a little deeper, and appreciate how beautiful this country truly is.’
While breathtaking scenery often steals the spotlight, Elizabeth suggested it is the country’s emotional impact that has kept drawing her back.
She described South Africa as a place that has transformed her over the years, writing that it has ‘challenged me, inspired me, broken my heart at times, and filled it in ways I never expected.’
The actress added that she ‘can’t imagine’ her life without the country and expressed gratitude for the moments and sunsets that remind her ‘just how magical this place really is.’
Elizabeth’s connection with South Africa stretches back more than a decade. She reportedly first visited in 2015 while working alongside the Save African Rhino Foundation, an experience that deepened her commitment to wildlife conservation.
Three years later, she established the Shannon Elizabeth Foundation in Cape Town, continuing her work to protect endangered species and support conservation efforts. Rather than being another celebrity holiday destination, South Africa has become central to both her personal journey and charitable work.
Elizabeth is far from the only international celebrity to leave South Africa with an emotional story. Earlier this year, actress Gabrielle Union shared an intimate family moment from Cape Town after returning with her husband, Dwyane Wade.
During their visit, the couple honoured Union’s late father, Sylvester Union Jr, by laying his ashes beneath grapevines they had planted during an earlier trip to a local wine estate.
Cape Town regularly features on international travel lists for its natural beauty, food, wine and outdoor lifestyle. Yet stories like Elizabeth’s offer a different perspective.
