A 14-year-old girl’s body was found hanging in Retreat on Thursday morning.
The body was discovered in a yard on Bernstein Road.
It was initially believed that the girl had committed suicide.
Community members have speculated that the victim was hung by members of the Junky Funky Kids (JFK) gang.
The SAPS confirmed to Cape {town} Etc: “Steenberg police registered an inquest for investigation after the body of a 14-year-old female was found hanging in a yard in Bernstein Road, Retreat, Thursday morning at about 04:00. She was cut loose and taken to a medical facility but was declared deceased on arrival. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”
