Cape Town is witnessing a dramatic evolution of its skyline with the ongoing construction of its second-tallest skyscraper, a project that promises to reshape the architectural landscape of the Mother City.
Initially revealed to the public with a striking design in 2008, the vision for this iconic structure has undergone several transformations before reaching its final rendering, which reflects modern aesthetics and functionality, as per reports by property broker Ash Muller.
The first design, unveiled in 2008, was an ambitious portrayal of contemporary elegance, featuring sleek lines and a futuristic look that caught the public’s imagination.
Fans of urban architecture were excited about the potential impact this towering structure would have on the city’s identity, projecting Cape Town into the forefront of global modernism.
However, in 2010, the developers recognised the need for a reimagined approach. The new rendering introduced a completely redesigned building, allowing for more adaptable spaces and enhanced integration with the local environment.
The current design, which is now under construction, embodies an amalgamation of the best features from its predecessors while incorporating cutting-edge technology and eco-friendly materials.
After a decade of speculation, plans, and redesigns, the eagerly anticipated second-tallest skyscraper in Cape Town is finally taking shape.
The site located at 1 Bree Street has recently received approval from the Building Development Management (BDM), signalling a new era for the Mother City’s skyline.
With preliminary demolition work already underway, excitement brews as Cape Town prepares to welcome a 41-storey, mixed-use tower that promises to redefine its urban landscape.
This ambitious project is set to feature an impressive combination of amenities, including 505 hotel rooms and 270 residential apartments, catering to both tourists and locals. With a whopping 4,000m² allocated for retail space, the development aims to foster a lively hub of commercial activity, seamlessly blending hospitality and residential living, as per reports by property broker Ash Muller.
One standout feature is the luxurious swimming pool located on the 22nd floor, poised to offer stunning views of the city below. Those with a keen eye for architectural detail will be particularly delighted as the design elegantly integrates the existing heritage building on the corner into the sleek glass facade of the towering structure a nod to Cape Town’s rich history amid modernity.

At an estimated height of 131 metres and a total construction area of 66,000m², this new skyscraper is not only a significant addition to the city’s silhouette but also an emblem of optimism in a post-pandemic world where tourism is once again on the rise.
It stands out as one of the few major hotel developments in Cape Town’s Central Business District over the past five years, capturing the attention of the local and international hospitality markets alike.
Online enthusiasts have affectionately nicknamed the project ‘Acsiopolis 2,’ likely referencing its Johannesburg counterpart found in Sandton, a city known for its stunning high-rise buildings.
With a developer boasting a robust portfolio listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), which also includes light industrial, retail, and mixed-use properties both locally and in Cyprus, this project is poised for success.
