According to a City of Cape Town letter addressed to Malvern De Bruyn, COSATU’s provincial leader, Congress of South Africa Trade Union (COSATU) has received permission for the protected strike, allowing up to approximately 3000 members to participate.
Participants in the march are expected to gather in Hanover Street near the District Six CPUT campus from 8 am.
The march will commence at 9.30 am, moving from Hanover Street. The Federation plans to hand over memoranda at the Cape Town Civic Centre, the Western Cape Legislature and National Parliament hoping that authorities in the Western Cape will play their part in bettering the lives of residents.
The crowd is expected to disperse by 4 pm.
The following list provides the streets that will at some point become affected between 8 am to 4 pm for the march on Thursday morning 4 August.

This follows COSATU’s response that they will continue to push ahead with its strike despite criticism from Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde, who said on Tuesday that the planned protest was “counter-productive” and “misguided”.

The strike is said to represent both COSATU and its affiliates’ exasperation towards the high violent-crimes rate; as well as the worker’s anger at high fuel prices in the country that cause dire effects on the quality of living for the poor and working classes.
