News24 reported that Elijah Mhlanga, a spokesperson for the Department of Basic Education, became aware of the reported error after receiving complaints from all corners of the country.
The complainants insisted that question 5.1 did not make any logical sense, and therefore could not have a logical solution.
According to News24, Mhlanga gave assurances that the department would look into the error and that there was no need for the learners to worry.
“We will look into it. We have a panel that reviews every paper. If there is an error, the first step is to remove that mark so that no one is compromised.”
Mhlanga said that if officials establish that the question impacted their exam, the DBE will request that the quality assurance council, Umalusi, make an adjustment of 1% or 2%.
