Update: The 34-year-old man who climbed up a pylon on Cecil Morgan Drive in Brackenfell South on Sunday was eventually lured down in the sweltering heat during a rescue operation.
Once returned to the ground, the man spotted the officers at the scene, climbed back up the Eskom infrastructure and refused to come down.
City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermain Carelse told News24 that a technical rescue team and a hydraulic platform were sent to the scene in an attempt to bring the man down safely.
The man was eventually brought back down after being enticed with water.
No injuries were sustained and the man was taken to a medical facility.
“No criminal cases were registered for investigation,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
Eskom has temporarily shut down electricity in Brackenfell after a suspect was allegedly chased and subsequently climbed up a pylon on Cecil Morgan Drive in Brackenfell South.
The incident has become a possible suicide attempt situation.
SAPS, Team C-Max Armed Security Services, EMS and the negotiation team are currently on the scene in an attempt to bring the suspect down safely.
Eskom lines are temporarily suspended due to the high risk that the suspect might shock.
