Eskom has announced that six generating units have suffered breakdowns in the last 24 hours, and because of this, loadshedding will be escalated to stage 6 tonight.
Stage 5 loadshedding will be implemented from 12pm this afternoon until 9pm tonight. Thereafter, stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented until 5am tomorrow morning. From there, stage 5 will continue until further notice.

The power utility said:
“In the last 24 hours, six generating units have suffered breakdowns, of which a unit each at Duvha and Hendrina has not yet returned to service.”
“In addition, a generating unit each at Matla and Arnot had been returned to service. There is a delay in returning a generating unit each at Duvha, Kendal, Grootvlei, and Kriel power stations,” it continued.
Around 4,654 MW are out due to planned maintenance, while breakdowns currently amount to 18,123 MW of generating capacity.
