Heavy rains and floods have left many Capetonians reeling. This comes as part of a cold front we are currently facing in Cape Town that adds disruptive rains and strong winds to the equation.
If your usual roads have started to look more like dams, you aren’t alone. Motorists have been advised to be cautious and use alternative routes for some roads and ramps that have been affected due to flooding conditions and other means.
As a big hurdle for many travelling the N2 inbound, the Spine Road off-ramp is currently facing closure due to flooding. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
However, help is at hand thanks to the City of Cape Town officials who have actively been dispatching teams to flooding-related complaints and incidents.
These teams also saw to overnight incidents, and have been given shout-outs by motorists who have driven down the N2, expressing that officials were helping those affected by the weather.
The City of Cape Town noted that very high rainfall has been recorded, with 128mm at the Newlands rainfall station within a 24-hour period earlier this week.
Meanwhile, going beyond the roads, the basement parking of Somerset West’s Sanctuary Mall also faced flooding on Monday evening.
