The City of Cape Town has announced that the main bathing area at Fish Hoek Beach is closed to the public from Sunday, 18 December until further notice.
The temporary closure of the beach is due to a sewage overflow.

The cause of the overflow is yet to be identified, and various City departments have been activated to respond to this incident.
City Health will be taking water samples on a daily basis for water quality testing until the levels are within the minimum requirement for recreational activities as determined by the National Water Quality Guidelines.
In the meantime, the public is advised to avoid contact with the water until further notice.
The City has closed the beach as a precaution, as contact with the water could result in potential gastrointestinal issues, and any person who enters the water does so at their own risk.
A Health Warning sign has been erected to alert the public to the situation.
