Police in Delft are investigating a triple murder after a shooting at a taxi rank early on Thursday morning left three men dead in what authorities believe may be linked to the taxi industry, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 06:15 on Thursday, 12 March 2026, at a taxi rank located on Delft Main Road in the Voorbrug area.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered the bodies of two men, aged 55 and 58, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel declared both victims dead at the scene.
A third victim, a 38-year-old man, was found wounded and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects arrived at the taxi rank in a Toyota Quantum. Shots were allegedly fired from inside the vehicle before the suspects fled the scene. Authorities have not yet confirmed how many suspects were involved.
The incident has raised concerns about possible violence linked to the local taxi industry, a sector that has historically experienced periodic conflicts over routes, operations, and control of taxi ranks in parts of the Western Cape.
Detectives from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime unit have taken over the case and are currently investigating three counts of murder. Police have not yet made any arrests, and investigations are ongoing.
Law enforcement officials say they are working to gather further evidence and are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have information that could assist investigators.
‘We urge anyone with information that could assist in identifying the suspects or the vehicle involved to come forward,’ police said in a statement.
Members of the public can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or provide information anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application. Police have assured that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The shooting has once again highlighted safety concerns at busy transport hubs where commuters gather early in the morning. Taxi ranks across the city serve thousands of commuters daily, particularly during peak hours.
Authorities say increased visibility and investigative efforts will continue in the area as police work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released as police work to notify their families.
Investigations remain ongoing.
