A gripping new video by South African snake catcher Tyrone Ping shows the tense moment he safely captures and releases one of the largest and most venomous Cape cobras, after it was discovered hiding behind a woman’s couch.
Filmed from Ping’s point of view, the footage captures the high-stakes callout as he carefully moves in on the highly dangerous snake concealed inside the home. With limited space and little room for error, he methodically coaxes the cobra out from behind the couch before securing it using professional handling techniques.
The Cape cobra is considered one of Africa’s most venomous snakes, with potent neurotoxic venom capable of causing respiratory failure if left untreated. Despite the risk, Ping remains calm and controlled throughout the encounter, ensuring both the resident’s safety and the snake’s safe removal.
Watch:
Once contained, the cobra is relocated and released back into a more suitable natural environment.
Cape cobras are relatively common in parts of the Western Cape, particularly during warmer months when they are more active and may enter homes in search of shelter or prey. Residents are to remain cautious and to contact trained professionals rather than attempting to handle snakes themselves.
With his expertise in reptile handling, Ping remains dedicated to safeguarding both the community and local wildlife through his valuable services.
