A well-known farmer was robbed and murdered on his Piket Bo-Berg farm in Picketberg on the West Coast during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police received a call from a community member about a a person that had been injured. When the officers arrived on the scene, they found the body of the 53-year-old man, half-covered with a bin.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said “He was already declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. He sustained blunt force trauma against the right side of his head.”
Investigations of the circumstances surrounding the incident are underway.
“An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the deceased’s desk,” added Van Wyk. “We have reason to believe that the motive for the attack [is] robbery.”
Van Wyk says the unknown suspects fled and no arrests have been made.

Executive Director of the Rural and Farmworkers Development Organisation, Billy Claasen, strongly condemned the attack and urged the police to do everything in their power to see that the suspects are put behind bars as soon as possible, as reported by News 24.
“We convey our heartfelt thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, farmworkers, and the agricultural sector of the Western Cape. It is a barbaric incident that has no place in our society and we cannot be silent on this,” says Claasen.
