Residents across parts of the Western Cape and Northern Cape are being urged to prepare for several days of unusually hot weather, with temperatures expected to climb sharply this week, Cape {town} Etc reports.
A heatwave advisory issued by the South African Weather Service warns that persistently high temperatures will settle over sections of the two provinces from Sunday, 9 March, and are likely to continue through to Friday, 13 March.
The alert signals a stretch of intense daytime heat that could push thermometers well into the high 30s°C, with some areas possibly reaching the low 40s°C.

Forecast models show the first wave of extreme temperatures building over the western parts of the Namakwa district in the Northern Cape, alongside west and south-western regions of the Western Cape from Monday.
The South African Weather Service note that the hot spell is expected to broaden as the week progresses. By Tuesday, the heat is likely to extend into inland areas such as the Little Karoo and Central Karoo, as well as parts of the western Garden Route.
Weather forecasters are encouraging residents to take practical steps to manage the extreme temperatures. The South African Weather Service is urging people to stay well hydrated, reduce strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and take simple precautions to keep cool.
Simple measures such as drinking water regularly and seeking shade during peak afternoon heat can make a significant difference during these conditions.
