Entrepreneurs Sarel Van der Walt and Maxime Eon, the brains behind the widely successful online biltong delivery site (yes really) Biltong Board, are extending their venture and bringing a physical stand-alone biltong eatery & bar to Cape Town’s city bowl this September.

The Biltong Board store will manifest as a modern and contemporary sidewalk bar on the corner of Bloem and Loop Streets, showcasing the best in South African biltong paired with local wines and craft beers. The aim is to allow tourists, as well as locals, the chance to experience authentic South African cuisine in a unique way.

The menu will feature of a range of biltong including beef, kudu, gemsbok, and eland, while gourmet options like Wagyu and prime beef fillet offer something more adventurous for the well-seasoned palates. These will be available to purchase as well as to enjoy as a sit-down delicacy.

If you’re after a meal that’s more substantial, the kitchen will also be serving up some mouth-watering French-style sandwiches, comprised of foot-long baguettes filled with ethically and locally sourced ingredients. Think prosciutto and mozzarella; salami and provolone; Greek bacon biltong and brie; and pepperoni with coppa and mortadella.

While the opening date is set for some time next month, the Biltong Board team is also looking to raise extra funds prior to their launch through their crowdfunding campaign.
