Cape Town’s first gourmet ice cream sandwich haven embraces its playful persona and quirky charm, proudly wearing its crown with delightful flair.
Cape {town} Etc’s Jared Moorgas visited the newly relocated Crumbs & Cream in Sea Point, and it’s truly a gem.
Nestled on Sea Point’s main road, this delightful spot stands out amidst the concrete jungle.
Famous for their mouth-watering gelato, fluffy crêpes, and perfect-for-winter hot chocolate, Crumbs & Cream is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.
As you step inside, vibrant neon signs greet you with playful advice like ‘Treat yo’self’ and ‘Gelato Please!’
Another neon sign towers above the coffee machine, cheerfully exclaiming ‘Brew!’ to passersby in need of a quick cookie and coffee fix.
Diverse seating options ensure a comfortable visit for everyone. You can choose to stay indoors and enjoy the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with cookies and ice cream while relaxing on a swing, or opt to sit outside and soak up the vibrant life of Sea Point.
Joining the queue with fellow dessert enthusiasts (I wasn’t the only one making the most of a pleasantly warm winter’s day), the unmistakable aroma of freshly baked cookies filled the air, enticing my senses.
The store’s interior is a feast for the eyes, adorned with bright colours that enhance its whimsical ambience.
Winter mornings can be chilly, but we were here to warm up with a delicious Terbadore coffee.
Next to the coffee machine sits an irresistible selection of cookies, offering a myriad of flavour combinations.
Choices include brownie, red velvet, choc chip, Oreo, candy crush, and rainbow.
For those seeking a guilt-free treat, there are also banting and vegan cookies, each perfected through hours of recipe testing and baked fresh daily.
As I eagerly browsed the options, a friendly reminder about the cookie and coffee special for just R25 caught my attention, and I couldn’t resist.
I opted for the Bar One brownie cookie and a cappuccino.
The combination was divine, with the rich, chocolatey cookie and creamy cappuccino melting together in blissful harmony.
The shop is a visual feast, but it doesn’t rely solely on its appearance but upholds exceptional quality.
Everything is meticulously crafted on-site from scratch, from the homemade cones (or enjoy your ice cream in a cup, bowl, or nestled between two cookies) to the freshly baked cookies and made-to-order crêpes.
The ice cream, made with authentic Italian gelato, uses the finest local ingredients. The Belgian chocolate, for instance, is truly top-notch, offering a rich and indulgent experience.
The staff are warm and inviting, eager to help you craft a unique treat.
Whether you choose to create your ice cream sandwich by selecting two different cookies and a flavour of gelato or opt for a simple cookie assortment, they are happy to guide you through the process.
Next, I indulged in the dreamy Le Crookie Croissant, fresh from the oven.
This creation is a buttery croissant stuffed with gooey cookie dough, resulting in a perfectly flaky pastry with a luscious, oozy centre.
It’s a stroke of culinary genius – no wonder it went viral.
Each bite melts in your mouth, offering a sublime fusion of buttery croissant and decadent cookie dough. Even over-explaining does not do it justice!
Finally, we sampled the French Crêpe, adorned with a generous drizzle of chocolate sauce both on top and inside. The warm, tender crêpe offered a comforting embrace, making you feel like everything was going to be just fine.
It’s safe to say that the latest Crumbs & Cream shop has nailed it with top-notch professionalism and style, thanks to its amazing staff and baristas. It’s the kind of place that transforms a simple ice cream outing into a memorable occasion.
