A magical place of food, drink and shop in the Helderberg charms locals and visitors alike. Pajamas & Jam, a breakfast and brunch eatery in Strand, is a family-owned business managed by the De Villiers family. From open to close, guests are welcomed into this home-away-from-home with an almost farm-style hospitality and comfort. Whether you’re looking for a wholesome breakfast to start your day with, a delicious brunch to share with loved ones, a refreshing drink to relax with, this Helderberg hidden gem is the ideal getaway for anyone who would like to recharge amongst friendly faces.
What’s on the menu?
Pajamas & Jam focuses mainly on breakfast and lunch. Their meals are all unique and delectable – they put a special spin on each of their dishes.
Their Traditional breakfast isn’t just eggs on toast, but rather traditional grilled beef sausages served in a Moroccan tomato smoor with fried eggs and tempura mushrooms, served with pesto butterbeans and toasted manet nuts on polenta. Instead of the usual toasted slice, this meal is accompanied by mieliebrood.
Or try the Mushroom Affair, a bowl with the creamiest parmesan mushrooms served with spiced chickpeas, quinoa fritters, a poached egg and crispy kale drizzled with a slight truffle oil drizzle.
Meaty or vegetarian, hot or cold, there is something that can cater to any taste. Pasta lovers should try the Butternut Ravioli, cinnamon butternut filled homemade ravioli tossed through a melted herb butter, a good amount of grated parmigiana, belnori and crispy onion. Hungry eaters who seek a hearty soup will find satisfaction in their Broth Bowl, a slow-cooked vegetable broth served with poached chicken and soba noodles.
A healthy Salmon Poke bowl will fill your stomach and soul: salmon served fresh, tossed in teriyaki soya on brown rice with chopped slaw, baby spinach and edamame beans; cubed avocado, pickled ginger and kewpie mayo; sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds, spring onions and a wonton; on the side accompanied by ponzu shoyu – a healthy feast in a bowl. Or try their Classic Winter Bowl, pulled butterchicken served with a home made roti and a cucumber and kohlrabi salad.
A share affair:
At Pajamas & Jam, a meal is more than just food – it’s also an opportunity for people to connect. Both breakfast and lunch have sharing options on the menu, perfect for two people to share.
Their Breakfast Pan is a beautiful breakfast, rich in olive oil: caramelised leeks, a roast aubergine and parmesan gratin with wilted baby spinach and crumbed feta; spiced ratatouille, za’atar oil, curried pumpkin seeds and lentils and poached eggs; accompanied by challah.
For lunch, share the Cremonzola and Pear Foccacia with a friend. This dish uses their home-rolled onion and olive bases. Start with buffalo mozzarella, and garlic, artichoke and sundried tomato preserve with hidden dates. Then enjoy honey-soaked soft pears, broken cremonzola and homemade pesto, sorrel hummus and date-sweetened aubergines and crispy kale.
A drink in hand:
Coffee and tea lovers are treated to an extensive menu of caffeinated and uncaffeinated beverages, as well as some hot chocolate options. Cold drinks include milkshakes, smoothies and freshly made juices. Guests can even celebrate special occasions with a glass of bubbly in hand with their small selection of sparkling wine.
Milk alternatives are availabe in the form of almond milk (sweetened and unsweetened), macadamia milk and oat milk.
Even though their menu items primarily cater to vegetarians and meat eaters, they welcome vegan customers. They do have vegan options available and invite their plant-based customers to ask for more details.
A shopper’s delight
Not only does it offer nutritious and delicious meals to visitors, but Pajamas & Jam also offers guests the opportunity to take something special home with them. Their shop includes both baked goods and household items, including a beautiful range of dresses that are made in a white Linen Calico blend.
Take home something scrumptious from their bakery, such as a gourmet cake, delectable pastries, homemade breads, or small sweet or savoury treats like tarts, biscuits, rusks, scones, muffins and so much more.
Or decorate your home with a beautifully designed and created item from Pajamas & Jam: candles and candle holders, vases, baskets, ceramics, glassware, kitchenware, and antique heirlooms – the list is endless. They also have a small selection of decorative florals, books, and pantry items for sale.
Pajamas & Jam is more than just an eatery; it is a wholesome experience for anyone who finds themselves at their doorstep.
