Set in Cape Town’s leafy Upper Wynberg district, the hotel sets the scene for a time-honoured tradition which invites guests to commemorate special occasions or simply spend quality time with friends and family.
An afternoon to savour
The hotel’s Palm Terrace, shaded by century-old palms and surrounded by lush foliage and vivid blossoms, makes an ideal environment for an afternoon of indulgence.
On cooler days, the conservatory-style restaurant provides a cosy option.
The Palm House Afternoon Tea menu features a delectable assortment of savoury and sweet treats, all produced in-house under Chef Henderson’s close supervision.
You’ll find exquisite finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and a variety of pastries and delicacies presented on a traditional three-tiered stand.
Accompanied by coffee, speciality tea or something more festive, such as a glass of sparkling wine, the experience promises to be a sensory feast.
A tradition revived
Palm House has revived the practice of afternoon tea, which dates back to 19th-century England.
The ritual, which was first introduced by Anna, Duchess of Bedford, to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner, has been painstakingly adapted to Cape Town’s easygoing yet exquisite dining scene.
Palm House honours the beauty of this tradition with carefully presented food and the kind, attentive service that guests expect in such a historic venue.
A timeless retreat
The Palm House Boutique Hotel & Spa, meticulously refurbished by new owners Max Jong and Shelagh Wood, seamlessly blends historical elegance with modern luxury.
Located only minutes from Constantia’s vineyards and the forested slopes of Table Mountain, the hotel provides a serene respite from the city while being close to Cape Town’s key attractions.
Guests can extend their stay at the hotel’s Açaí Spa and Wellness Oasis, which offers three treatment rooms and a unique Banya Sauna.
After a relaxing massage or cosmetic treatment, stroll through the gardens or simply relax on the terrace, allowing the serene ambiance to wash over you.
A celebration of Cape Town’s culinary heritage
Chef Henderson’s menu celebrates not only the traditional Afternoon Tea, but also the region’s culinary heritage. Locally sourced ingredients play an important role in his creations, giving homage to Cape Town’s lively tastes and ensuring that each meal is as unique as it is delicious.
