Local flavours that are big on taste and bursting with the smells of Cape Town.
Park Inn by Radisson® Newlands headed by Executive Chef, Chevonne Morris’ new menu boasts the tastes of the Cape. A locally inspired menu with a twist is a collaborative foodie venture among her and her team. Recipe testing is comprised of a play of tastes, flavours and colours but still making sure the menu items are easy to grab on-the-go.
Chef Chevonne predicts the Caesar salad with a twist will be the culinary hero, with the addition of apple. Second on her list is an internationally inspired dish with a local twist, the Beef Bourgeon Braise. It is best described as a hearty stew with all the bells and whistles – a hearty winter dish of braised beef in red wine with wild mushrooms, pearl baby onions on a polenta cake.
Two key items featured that stem from the team’s foodie collaboration is the flavourful seafood gnocchi. Served with either penne or linguine, calamari, prawn, mussels and hake covered with a creamy, parmesan sauce. True to our heritage and our love for good meat, no surprises here – the succulent meat and chicken platter, comprises of coriander paprika lamb koftas, beef kebabs, barbeque sticky wings, tikka chicken kebabs complemented with a sweet chili sauce.
Aptly labelled, sweet memories – the dessert menu serves so much nostalgia. The traditional sundae with a crunchy surprise, a combination of chocolate sauce, cream, Oreo brownie and vanilla ice cream topped with Oreo cookie crumble.
The full menu was launched to the public last week where patrons can enjoy starters to mains and round it all off with something sweet on the dessert menu.
“South Africa is a melting pot of cultures, we chose to embrace our local heritage and add a culinary twist to dishes so patrons are wrapped with the warmth of this city in every bite,” concludes Morris.
There’s no question that this may be the perfect way to celebrate our heritage this long weekend.
