One of Cape Town’s favourite rugby sons and the first ever Springbok rugby Test centurion Percy Montgomery this weekend launched his Agave spirit brand, El Centurion 102 at the Beach House in Camps Bay.
WATCH:
Montgomery, a 2007 Rugby World Cup winner, played 102 Tests; hence the 102 in El Centurion. He, at the time of his international retirement, held 94 Springbok rugby records and remains the highest points scorer (893) in Springboks rugby history. Cheers to that!
Montgomery played 330 professional matches and represented the Springboks, Barbarians, Western Province, Stormers, Sharks, Newport, Dragons and Perpignan.
Fellow Springboks centurion Bryan Habana and Proteas cricket centurion Herschelle Gibbs were among those who celebrated the launch with Montgomery.
The First Lady of Springbok rugby Annelee Murray and the USA coach Gary Gold also attended. Murray was a long-time colleague of Montgomery’s, and Gold and Montgomery were part of the Springboks management between 2009 and 2011.
Montgomery joked that his two primary passions in life were rugby and tequila and that launching his own tequila brand was a natural fit.
El Centurion 102 was born and is the finest ultra-premium 100% organic Karoo Blue Agave spirit in South Africa. Captured in the exquisite 102 Blanco and Reposado is a tequila made the traditional Mexican way and fused with the essence of Monty’s World Cup-winning Test career and his free spirited Camps Bay lifestyle.
