Self-care Sunday is the new buzzed-about phrase, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. With a seemingly endless pandemic under our belts, it’s never been more vital to carve out some all-important “me time” to help reset our minds and rejuvenate our bodies before the new week.
Indulging in a good self-care routine goes beyond a relaxing bath and face mask but can include anything that leaves you feeling refreshed and ready to punch your way through the week. If you’re stumped on ideas, here are a few of our favourite ways to celebrate self-care Sundays.
Stop being productive
We’ve all suffered from being too productive. Making sure our never-ending to-do list is ticked off and that we keep ourselves busy in the hopes of avoiding productivity guilt has become a sickness our society now suffers from. Embrace the art of nothingness and revel in the joy of not having to feel guilty about it. Instead, do something that makes you happy. Whether that includes watching a Netflix documentary or reading a book on the balcony, don’t feel the need to keep yourself busy with mundane tasks – relax!
Spend time in nature
This is a biggie. Various studies have been conducted showcasing why stepping out and enjoying nature is so important. With self-isolation and quarantine being words that have now slipped into your daily vocabulary, taking some time to breathe in fresh air has never been more important. Grab your keys and head to the beach for a breezy walk or put on your hiking shoes and spoil yourself with a walk through Newlands Forest.
Cook or Bake something
We’re not all blessed with the cooking or baking gene, but this is a fantastic way to express your creative side. Whether it’s a simple salad or a three-tier chocolate cake, spend some time in the kitchen whipping up something delicious just for you. The idea is to allow your taste buds to do a little happy dance while treating your body to something a little healthy or naughty – you decide.
Try something new
Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be a scary feeling, but once you jump off the cliff, it can be exhilarating. Add a little spice to your Sunday by doing something you’ve always wanted to but never had the guts to do. It can be anything from paragliding off Signal Hill to listening to a new artist on Apple Music. The sky’s the limit!
A pamper routine
It may be a very traditional method of indulging in self-care, but it’s a wonderful way to treat yourself. Head to your favourite spa for a decadent facial or massage, or grab a few face masks from your favourite pharmacy for a day of pampering. This can include anything your heart desires – red wine, a warm bath, or a longer than usual skincare routine.
