South Africans are once again being invited to put their best foot forward for a cause that carries both heart and impact, as Flip Flop Day 2026 returns on Friday, 20 February, reports Cape {town}Etc.
Led by CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa, the annual campaign blends awareness with action, calling on individuals, schools and workplaces to wear flip flops in solidarity with children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer.
At its core, the campaign asks for a simple commitment: purchase a R10 Flip Flop Day sticker, slip on a pair of flip flops and stand alongside families navigating the childhood cancer journey.
Behind that small gesture lies a nationwide effort to fund essential support services for young patients and their caregivers.
Now a familiar fixture on the social calendar, Flip Flop Day continues to show how collective participation can translate into meaningful change.

Speaking to the purpose behind the initiative, CHOC CEO Hedley Lewis underscored the message driving the campaign.
‘This fun campaign carries a serious message, that no family should walk the childhood cancer journey alone.’
Lewis added that even the most modest contribution plays a role, noting that the R10 sticker helps CHOC deliver practical, emotional and educational support to families at a time when stability is often hardest to maintain.
Money raised through Flip Flop Day enables CHOC to sustain a range of services designed to ease the burden on families during treatment.
These include safe accommodation near treatment centres, assistance with transport costs, psychosocial support, and educational programmes that help children and adolescents continue learning while undergoing care.
The campaign also offers a clear picture of how participation adds up. When 20 people buy stickers, it can help cover a child’s average monthly transport costs to and from treatment.

Thirty participants can fund a CHOC Carebag, given to every newly diagnosed child or teenager, containing essential toiletries and a parent handbook to help families understand what lies ahead.
With 60 participants, the funds can cover one night’s accommodation for a child and caregiver at a CHOC House, providing a safe space and meals at no cost.
These examples, shared by the organisation, highlight how everyday actions can directly support families during some of their most challenging moments.
Flip Flop Day 2026 places a strong emphasis on friendship and shared participation, encouraging people to take part as colleagues, classmates, families or communities.
