Popular skincare brand, known for being dermatologist-recommended and reasonably affordable, La Roche-Posay has voluntarily recalled one of their products due to possible benzene contamination.
La Roche-Posay came onto the scene in 1975 and the brand gained popularity around the world. Highly regarded in South Africa, with a trusted formulation the brand has managed to garner a strong clientele and customer loyalty around the country.
A variety of skincare products have been named as being unsafe for use due to their containing levels of a certain carcinogen found in cigarettes and gasoline. One of these products to have been found with possible traces of this carcinogen is a popular acne treatment from La Roche-Posay; Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment.
This product contains benzoyl peroxide; a popular ingredient in many acne treatments and creams. While this is an effective ingredient, recent studies have shown a trend of benzene contamination in products containing benzoyl peroxide. Benzene contamination is a harmful carcinogen and its dangers depend on the period of time that someone has been exposed to the ingredient.
Although La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment Is only listed as possibly having benzene contamination, the company acted swiftly to recall and discontinue the product for the safety and peace of mind of their clientele.
