ReWild Food is a Simon’s Town-based company that offers a variety wholesome experiences including sustainable guided seaweed foraging beach walks, snorkelling adventures and transformative retreats in sublime environments.
The company’s owner, Lindy Taverner, is passionate about the ocean, the food we eat, and especially our mental, bodily and spiritual wellbeing. Lindy has a wealth of experience in hospitality and conservation, and has used her know how to curate experiences that are not only rewarding, but potentially life changing. Lindy is also a qualified lifesaver and free diver.
ReWild Food’s next weekend retreat, Ocean Spirit Retreat, will be running from the 25 to 27 March. The retreat will be hosted by a pristine hotel in Simon’s Town, overlooking the ocean. This magical weekend away features activities grounded in the same common goal of health and rejuvenation.
You can look forward to early morning cold swims, guided snorkelling, yoga with a view of the ocean and incredible nature walks. There will also be massage and beauty therapists available and all the food is provided — plant-based! ReWild Food strives towards being sustainable, organic and low impact and so ingredients for the weekend are harvested fresh from their garden.
Catering falls under the expertise of Daniela Puccini. Daniela has worked as a personal chef in Europe and and runs a vegan restaurant in Cape Town.
From the meals to the activities and therapy, everything about this retreat is connected to the ocean and our wellbeing. Lindy says that the ocean floods us with multi-sensory stimulation. “Every part of us is engaged, even just by being near the water, and we are left with little choice but to be drawn into the present. Something much-needed in our lives today, we come away richer for experiencing the sea.”
From a health perspective, cold water therapy boosts your immune system and energy levels, improves your blood circulation and metabolism, deepens your sleep, reduces inflammation and lifts your spirit! Vitamin rich seaweed is incorporated in many of the meals and is also used by the beauty therapists as a face mask in one of the treatments.
Breathing techniques incorporated in the yoga sessions are geared towards improving your comfort and confidence in the water for the snorkelling sessions.
Even the accommodation is situated in close proximity to the ocean. So close that local penguins from Boulders Beach are often spotted waddling through the parking lot. Lindy’s inspiration and drive to continue to put on these retreats is not only based on her passion for the ocean and the rejuvenating effect it has on our lives, but also the transformation that she witnesses in her guests.
