We all want to live a healthy lifestyle. Do sweet treats such as chocolate cakes and doughnuts often get in the way – sure, but creating a healthy lifestyle is about balance, right?
However, when we’re looking to indulge in foods that are healthy and nourishing, it’s unlikely that we would knowingly consume foods which would steal our energy. After all, the point of eating healthier is to ensure we can last longer throughout the day.
But did you know that there are foods we would normally consider healthy which could be stealing your energy throughout the day?
Here are a few foods that may be doing just that:
High-carb dishes
We all understand that carbs are an essential aspect of ensuring our bodies are energized, but not all carbs are made equally. High-carb meals have a nasty habit of causing your blood sugar to rise and subsequently crash, resulting in a dip in energy.
It’s no wonder we experienced the infamous “lunchtime brain fog.” A solution is to pair your carbs with healthy fats and protein to ensure you keep your energy levels consistent which will ensure you avoid nasty lunchtime energy slumps.
Chickpeas
While we usually associate tucking into a delicious bowl of chickpea salad as a way to stay healthy, not always so, say experts. Chickpeas contain tryptophan, vitamin B6 and magnesium, all crucial ingredients when trying to enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Vitamin B also produces the sleep hormone melatonin and including foods with vitamin B6 throughout the day provides your body with the right ingredients to… well, fall asleep.
Almonds
Adding almonds to your diet is always a good idea as it contains plenty of healthy fats, dietary fiber and magnesium. Almonds are another delicious and healthy food that is high in vitamin B6 and tryptophan and is actually a great healthy snack to have before bedtime but it’s not a great way to help you push through the midday slump.
