In honour of World Autism Awareness Day on 2 April 2026, the Be My Voice initiative celebrates neurodiversity while recognising Joshua Sandy, who turns 19 on this significant day, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The campaign brings together community, compassion and purpose, creating space for voices that are often unheard. It reinforces a simple message that every individual, regardless of ability, deserves to be seen, valued and understood.

At its core, Be My Voice acknowledges that expression takes many forms. A voice is not always spoken. It can be felt, shared and discovered in unique ways.
Inspired by real journeys of growth and resilience, the initiative supports individuals living with autism, dyslexia, epilepsy and ADHD by creating safe, inclusive spaces where they can build confidence and express themselves freely.
As part of this year’s campaign, 2 000 pre-baked cookies will be packed and distributed to 20 organisations on 2 April. Seven neurodiverse students, who began their journey through workshops at Mary Ann’s Emporium Eatery in Somerset West, will join the packing event at La Bay Lodge in Gordon’s Bay.
The initiative aims to challenge stereotypes and showcase the creativity and talent within neurodiverse communities.
The organisers extend their thanks to Mary Ann’s Emporium Eatery, La Bay Lodge, Meridian Real Estate and Afrosapien Entertainment for their support in turning awareness into meaningful action.
Together, the campaign calls for a future where neurodiversity is not only accepted, but celebrated.
