According to Newsday, Planet Fitness and some local chains offer 12-month plans from roughly R400 to R1500 a year depending on access.
Some budget brands charge as little as R150 a month for basic options.

Industry data show commercial gym membership remains relatively low. Only about 3% of South Africans belong to commercial fitness clubs, while roughly 20% exercise regularly, suggesting many people choose informal or home workouts.
