On 10 December 2025, luxury hospitality group Newmark signed a management agreement to restore one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town. The LENOX in Gardens, which dates back to 1897, is set to be transformed into a 47-room boutique hotel and artist residency, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Scheduled to open in 2027 under Newmark management, the development will include a restaurant, conference facilities and a restored garden.
One floor will be dedicated to a permanent art residency hosting both international and local artists. Located in the heart of the city’s cultural district, the hotel will allow guests to engage directly with artists and view works created on-site.
The signing took place in the Victoria Room at the Queen Victoria Hotel, with Newmark Chief Executive Neil Markovitz and Mobilitas Chairman Alain Taïeb leading the ceremony.

Newmark described the day as a defining moment for the company and the city.
‘We are experienced in bringing beautiful historic buildings back to life and look forward to restoring the grandeur of this iconic landmark,’ Markovitz said (Newmark Hotels).

The redevelopment will be run with French cultural partner MEMORIST in collaboration with a team of local architects and planners.
