Cape Town’s historic Company’s Garden will once again transform into a lively summer marketplace when the My Cape Town Market returns this December, offering five evenings of shopping, food, music and local creativity in the heart of the city.
Running until 20 December, the free-entry event is designed to bring Capetonians and visitors together while giving local entrepreneurs a high-profile platform during one of the busiest times of the year.
Set against the leafy backdrop of the Company’s Garden at 19 Queen Victoria Street, the market will trade from 5pm to 10pm between Tuesday and Friday, with a slightly earlier close on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm, as noted by the City of Cape Town.
The City’s Economic Development and Investment Department, which is behind the initiative, says the aim is to create a space where community, culture and creativity intersect while supporting local businesses.
Shoppers can expect more than 100 vendors, showcasing everything from fashion and handmade crafts to homeware, bespoke designs, and a wide range of food offerings.
Entertainment will play a central role throughout the five-day event, with a line-up that blends established favourites with emerging performers.
Among those set to take the stage are Jarrad Ricketts, Theo Watt, drag comedian Odidi, and a special tribute performance by Leslie Kleinsmith, Lyndall Kearns, and Romaine Robeiro, who will close the market. Daily buskers will also perform across the garden, adding to the festive atmosphere.
City officials highlight that the market is more than just a seasonal attraction; it is part of a broader effort to strengthen the local economy by giving small businesses access to new audiences.
Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, Alderman James Vos, said: ‘This market is the perfect place for small businesses to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship, sell their goods, and connect with new customers.’
He added that supporting local entrepreneurs plays a direct role in building a more inclusive economy.
‘It’s also a chance for locals and visitors to come out and support our homegrown talent, because this is how we build an economy that works for all.’
As the festive season approaches, the My Cape Town Market has become a familiar feature on the city’s summer calendar — offering a family-friendly space that blends leisure, culture and economic opportunity.
With free entry, extended evening trading and a central location, the market is expected to attract both Capetonians and holidaymakers looking to experience the city’s creative energy in one place.
