In a groundbreaking initiative that promises to inspire both action and awareness about mobility rights, Össur South Africa has unveiled its 2026 ‘What’s Your Epic?’ campaign.
This launch comes as the world gears up for the Cape Epic, one of the most iconic mountain biking competitions, set to take place from 15 to 22 March 2026, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The heart of the campaign lies in a powerful message—everyone deserves the freedom to move.
Following the triumph of last year’s inaugural campaign, Össur South Africa is stepping up its commitment by entering three teams of amputee cyclists into the Cape Epic.
These six extraordinary riders exemplify resilience, courage, and the unyielding belief that with mobility comes transformation. Their mission extends beyond the competition; they seek to raise essential funds and awareness for three notable non-profit organisations: Jumping Kids, Rejuvenate SA, and Zimele.
‘Movement is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for the few, whether you’re an elite athlete, a child receiving their first prosthetic, or an adult reclaiming their independence; mobility unlocks dignity, participation, and potential. ‘What’s Your Epic?’ is a clarion call to South Africa to stand with us in supporting organisations that make this freedom a reality,’ emphasised Blignaut Knoetze, Managing Director of Össur South Africa.
Empowering through mobility
The campaign aims to raise not only funds but also awareness for four key organisations dedicated to improving mobility access and inclusion:
- Jumping Kids: Focused on providing quality prostheses, educational access, and sports opportunities for children living with limb loss, Jumping Kids strives to equip the next generation with the confidence to secure a brighter future.
- Rejuvenate SA: Founded on the belief that movement is a basic human right, Rejuvenate SA provides mobility aids to those in need, restoring both dignity and independence to countless lives.
- Zimele: Meaning ‘independence’ in Xhosa, Zimele empowers adults with physical disabilities by helping them regain control over their lives and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
This year’s teams are comprised of remarkable individuals, each with inspiring stories of overcoming adversity:
- Team 1: Rentia Retief (33, Somerset West), an artist and amputee athlete rebounding from a cycling accident, pairs with Travis Warwick-Oliver (32, Durban), founder of Rejuvenate SA and a two-time UTMB finisher.
- Team 2: Mhlengi Gwala (34, Durban), a para-triathlete and multiple African champion, joins forces with community motivator Kean Dry (30, Cape Town), showcasing the importance of resilience.
- Team 3: Brian Style (40, Springs), a passionate cyclist with a mission to give back, teams up with positive athlete Rudi Joubert (42, Secunda), both determined to raise funds for mobility solutions.
As noted by Knoetze, ‘These riders are not just racing; they are raising their voices for those who cannot,’ Their journey aims to shine a light on the organisations that restore dignity, independence, and hope to countless individuals.
‘What’s Your Epic?’ is about pushing boundaries; not just on the bike, but throughout society,’ Knoetze asserts. ‘By supporting mobility, we endorse access, inclusion, and bright futures. We call on South Africa to back our riders, our NPOs, and the belief that everyone deserves the freedom to mov,’
