In a powerful call to action, Ladles of Love, a non-profit organisation that has served over 48 million meals since the pandemic, has unveiled its Mandela Day 2025 campaign with an ambitious goal: ‘Feed the Future’.
The initiative encourages individuals, businesses and schools to volunteer, donate and raise awareness to tackle child food poverty in the country.
With flagship events at the Cape Town DHL Stadium and Johannesburg’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the organisation aims to mobilise thousands of volunteers to create essential items for underprivileged children.
A legacy of nourishment and hope
Founded by Danny Diliberto in 2014, Ladles of Love began as a humble soup kitchen serving Cape Town’s homeless. Fast forward to today, it supports 7 500 preschool children through its Nourish Our Children programme, uplifting teachers and ensuring young learners receive nutritious meals.
‘Every plate of healthy food has the power to change a life. Mandela Day reminds us that we all can uplift our communities through small acts of kindness – giving children hope and a healthy start in life,’ highlighted Diliberto.

How you can get involved
This year’s campaign invites participants to book a two-hour volunteer slot, which is R250 per person, choose an ‘Activation Zone’ (Make, Create, Craft or Grow), and sponsor a child’s meals (each ticket funds two meals a day for a month).
Meanwhile, DHL Stadium CEO Gina Woodburn expressed pride in hosting the event: ‘We are incredibly excited to host Mandela Day for the first time and are proud to open our doors to the community as part of our commitment to meaningful social impact.’
Similarly, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit joins as a key partner, reinforcing the spirit of ubuntu.
Keeping Mandela’s legacy alive
Mandela Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a movement. Whether you volunteer, donate or spread the word, every effort counts.
This Mandela Day, let’s come together to honour Madiba’s legacy by embracing the spirit of ubuntu and ensuring no child goes hungry. Because when we feed the future, we build a stronger and more compassionate South Africa for generations to come.
