Multiple suburbs affected by scheduled water shutdowns
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate confirmed that the planned water maintenance forms part of essential upgrades to water supply infrastructure and may result in full water shutdowns in affected areas.
According to the City, the work includes pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements aimed at improving long term service reliability. Residents have been advised to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers as a precaution.
‘The maintenance is critical to ensure a reliable water supply for residents. We encourage affected households to prepare accordingly and use water sparingly during this period,’ the City said.
Parts of Maitland, Wynberg and Strand will experience water outages on Tuesday, 27 January, with shutdowns scheduled from early morning until early evening.
Areas in Rondebosch will be affected on Wednesday, 28 January, while Gardens and Oranjezicht will experience test and full shutdowns on Tuesday and Thursday.
In Strand and Rondebosch, the City will deploy water tankers to provide water for domestic use during the outages. Residents are advised to bring their own containers.
The City noted that water services may take time to stabilise once supply resumes and warned that some areas may experience temporary discolouration or low pressure.
Full maintenance schedules and suburb specific details are available on the City of Cape Town’s official website: www.capetown.gov.za.
Residents can also report water related issues via the City’s call centre on 0860 103 089.
