A Cape Town family has been left devasted after their 14-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital due to gunmen opening fire on the family’s vehicle in what is believed to be a gang-related incident. 

The baby is currently in critical condition while the father, the son of a notorious gangster, was shot and wounded. However, he was later released from the hospital, as per IOL

The deadly shooting reportedly took place on Friday night at 11:oopm in Crawford. Police are currently investigating the shooting with the area on high alert. 

According to reports, the family were travelling along Vertrou Road when a car stopped alongside them and opened fire. The mother escaped unwounded, while the father was shot in the hand and the baby in the stomach. 

The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. 

The Western Cape has had a series of horrific gun-related crimes in recent weeks.

A Hermanus mother was gunned down in front of her 10-year-old daughter after unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle. Dorianne Lock died on the scene, while the daughter and father were injured and rushed to hospital. 

No suspects have been arrested.
