Cape Town police have launched a manhunt after the body of a 17-year-old student was found in Ellen Road, The Leagues, in Philippi on Thursday afternoon, 5 June, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, initial reports suggest the young man from Philippi High School was returning home from school just after 2pm when the fatal incident occurred.
‘Samora Machel detectives searched a crime scene… for clues where a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed earlier today,’ said Swartbooi.
‘Information at our disposal suggests that the boy was returning home from school when an unknown assailant opened fire, fatally wounding the victim.’
Swartbooi added that the student was declared deceased on the scene, and the suspect is yet to be arrested.
‘The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,’ said Swartbooi.
‘The circumstances are being investigated, and a public appeal for information is made. Crime Stop can be contacted on 08600 10111 or by using the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.’
This fatal incident follows just a day after a three-year-old disabled child was found deceased in a residence on Olive Road, Eastridge, in Mitchell’s Plain on Wednesday evening.
According to community activist group Fight Against Crime (FACSA), emergency medical services and SAPS responded to the scene.
‘It was further reported that the child’s mother could not be located and is currently missing,’ reported FACSA.
‘Investigations are ongoing.’
