A 19-year-old accused facing nine counts of murder and one count of attempted murder made a brief appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 January, Cape {town}Etc reports.
The accused was arrested in connection with a shooting at a shebeen in Marikana, Philippi East, on 17 January, where ten people were shot, according to Cape Town news.
Authorities have linked the suspect to the incident following an investigation into the deadly attack.
During the short court appearance, the matter was postponed to 02 February 2026. The accused did not apply for bail and will remain in custody until the next hearing.
The case continues to draw attention due to the number of victims involved, with further proceedings expected when the matter returns to court.
