Police say they have arrested at least four alleged rapists in the past week, adding that three of them, aged between 20 and 28 appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

A report by IOL said the three were arrested on Monday for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl after they had been drinking together in Browns Farm, the report said.

The fourth suspect, a 24-year-old man, was also arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a girl he was drinking together with in the New Rest informal settlement in Crossroads.

This comes as rape cases remain rife in Nyanga. At least 9 suspects were arrested in Nyanga in 2017 in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl.

EWN reported at the time that eight of the suspects were arrested shortly after the Crime in November.

The victim was abducted at gunpoint by one of the accused while walking along Robert Sobukwe road.
