The family of three-year-old Tatum Eksteen is mourning the toddler’s death after she was mauled to death by a dog earlier this week. Little Tatum was visiting her grandparents in Alabama Street in Strand on Monday morning when she was attacked by the family dog.
According to Die Son, Tatum was being looked after by a family member while she was playing outside the fenced yard when the dog viciously attacked her.
“The victim sustained multiple dog bites all over her body. She was taken to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment, where she later succumbed due to her injuries,” South African Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson Mihlali Majikela said in a statement.
An inquest has been opened following her death.
