At 5.20am an emergency call was received for a property fire in Delft. City Fire rescue services were deployed and extinguished the fire by 6.31am.

Ten wood backyard structures and 1 iron structure was destroyed leaving 32 people displaced.

“We are appealing to the community at large to assist theses families rebuild what has been destroyed both physically and emotionally,” said Ward Councillor for Bonteheuwel Angus McKenzi. “Thankfully no lives have been lost in this devastating fire.”

“The City through Disaster Risk management will be assisting and as Sub Council Chairperson I will be delivering food parcels and care packs,” McKenzi added.
