The work will start at 10pm tonight and is expected to be completed by 5am on Monday, depending on weather conditions.
These improvements will impact six areas:
- Grassy Park
- Pelican Park
- Muizenberg
- Steenberg
- Sun Valley
- Clovelly
Residents have been assured that their electricity supply is likely to stay operational during the procedure.
However, minor outages may occur throughout the maintenance period. The City has encouraged people to be cautious in the event of supply outages such as electrical tripping, which can occur periodically during such upgrades.
To keep citizens aware of any changes or unforeseen disruptions, the City will issue regular updates via its social media platforms and official channels.
In addition to infrastructural enhancements, the City announced the successful completion of the National Prepaid Metre Software Update for its consumers.
This update, which is required for all prepaid metres in South Africa by the end of November 2024, has already gone live in Cape Town. Approximately 570 000 prepaid metres throughout the city have been updated in the last three years.
‘Residents are advised to check the City’s official communication channels, including the City’s social media channels, or contact the Call Centre for any updates on the upgrade work,’ the city stated.
‘Due to some inaccurate reporting, there has been confusion regarding prepaid meter updates,’ the City said.
‘We want to assure our customers that they will continue to recharge their prepaid meters without any issues.’
