Two men have been apprehended in connection with the brutal beating of an elderly woman during a robbery of her Touws River home on Tuesday.
As reported by News24, Stef Groenewald is currently being treated for injuries she sustained in the attack at the Worcester Mediclinic. Her daughter Alida has condemned the attack, saying “The Bible teaches us not to hate, but what do you do when a piece of rubbish beats your 74-year-old mother so that you barely recognise her?” on a Facebook post.
Alida also wrote that her mother would sacrifice anything to ensure her children are taken care of.
According to reports, various items were taken from Stef’s home during the robbery. It is also alleged that the burglar had an accomplice, who was familiar with the Groenewald home.
“According to reports, Groenewald went outside because of the barking of her dogs and went to check; she opened the back of the kitchen door and was attacked by one of the suspects, who hit her head against the wall several times and she lost consciousness. They then got inside and stole cash and several articles in the house and fled the scene,” South African Police Services spokesperson FC Van Wyk said. “Sterling investigation by Touws River SAPS members led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 46 and 54.”
