In a joint effort, provincial traffic officials and the police have been busy patrolling Western Cape roads to monitor traffic violations.

According to IOL, in the past week, traffic services have carried out 225 integrated roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints and speed control operations across the province.
Thus far in July, 76 individuals have been arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Muneera Allie, the head of communication for Western Cape Mobility, confirmed that the statistics for drunk driving highlight the ongoing issue of impaired driving and severe harm caused to both drivers, passengers and other road users.
Through these operations, a total of approximately 17 000 vehicles were stopped and checked, and over 6 000 fines were issued for traffic violations.
In this period, around 23 car crashes occurred, resulting in 23 fatalities, 12 of whom were pedestrians.

Allie further stated that Provincial Traffic Services will maintain a strong presence on the roads to enforce traffic laws and ensure that violators are held accountable.
