New details regarding the sexual misconduct charges pertaining to fired MEC Albert Frtiz have come to light, revealing that around 12 complaints relating to sexual misconduct were recorded at the Western Cape social development department from 2012 and 2019, as per News24.
However, these specific charges are not related to Fritz but took place during his time there.
Fritz took on the role of social development MEC from 2011 until 2019, before nabbing his position within the community safety department.
Earlier this year, the former MEC resigned after an independent investigation by advocate Jennifer Williams indicated that the allegations of sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse relating to Fritz had “sufficient credibility.”
According to the report compiled by Williams, around eight incidents from February 2018 to February 2021 appear to have been found, reports EWN.
“The allegations range from sexual comments, inappropriate sexual comments, to inappropriate touching of the complainants, attempts to kiss and kissing without consent as well as sexual intercourse.”
The allegations were reviewed at the Standing Committee on Community Safety on Wednesday, a day after the release of the findings and saw Premier Alan Winde stand before the committee.
He made a point of highlighting the epidemic that is gender-based violence within South Africa.
“We must understand gender-based violence is an issue in our country and we need to apply our minds to it, as those in power,” he said.
