Cape {town} Etc spoke with Warren Cornelius, an executive committee member of Recovery Walk Cape Town, who shared the organisation’s inspiring journey.
‘We began as a small gathering in the CBD in 2014, and we’ve since blossomed into a substantial movement,’ he noted, highlighting the impact of their media outreach.
Cornelius emphasised the diverse community the organisation embraces.
‘This is a collective effort involving individuals in recovery, their families, peers, allies, treatment providers, non-profits, and local government.’ He expressed a vision for the future, stating, ‘We aim to host recovery walks in every community and expand our events throughout the year, making our city truly inclusive.’
Cornelius’s passion for this initiative stems from his own recovery journey and his work in the addictions field.
‘I think as somebody in recovery, I have a passion and I want to share what I went through with others. I also work in the recovery space and the addictions field so this is part of my passion really,’ Cornelius concluded.
