A fire broke out last night at the warehouse of Scan Display, a media company positioned along the N1. Authorities had to close the lane of the highway closest to the building to protect passing motorists after several small-scale explosions occurred.

Six fire engines and a Bronto Skylift were called to the scene to assist.

Alderman JP Smith said, “When we invested in these exceptional pieces of engineering excellence several years ago, we understood the importance of a well-equipped Fire & Rescue service. Many asked how can we afford to procure such expensive vehicles. Our thoughts go out to the business owner this evening and we hope they can recuperate from this horrible loss.

“As a caring municipality, our focus is on minimizing the loss and protecting the affected employment that goes along with it. With a second fire as such within as many days, and in both instances where specialized hydraulic aerial firefighting platforms were called to assist.
“To those that asked, “How can we afford such specialized vehicles?” Our response is simple: “How can we not afford not to?”
