Unless you live under a rock (in which case, power cuts would hardly affect you anyway) you know that we’re back in loadshedding season in South Africa.
Stage 6 has snuck upon our winter and a complete grid collapse looming and more blackouts are on the cards.
The City of Cape Town for one is attempting to soften the impact by dipping into its reserves and utilising the Steenbras Hydro Pumped Storage Scheme However, other South Africans are sending their pleas of help abroad – namely rapper AKA.
AKA recently took to Twitter to ask for assistance from none other Elon Musk – in hopes that Musk might turn his eyes from the stars to another region with scattered light.
South Africa is of course, Musk’s homeland (well, Pretoria to be precise) but Musk made the move to Canada in his teen years. The rest for Time Magazine’s 2021’s Person of the Year is of course, history.
AKA was quick to remind Musk of his roots, and asked if he could “do us a solid”.
Excuse me sir … @elonmusk … I cannot for the life of me understand why the government hasn’t approached you to come help us out with this electricity crisis, but is there any chance you could perhaps do us a solid, you know, with you being born here and all.

Please @elonmusk I know you have a solution for load shedding … do it for your country ? … your original one.

While many found it hilarious (and have likely thought along the same lines) a lot of people chose violence and took the opportunity to tear AKA apart for thinking he was on Musk’s level of direct communication. Maybe the internet trolls didn’t have anything better to do, with the lights being off and all.
“Shame he won’t see this tweet to him you’re like me to you,” one said.
“AKA is to uncle Elon Musk, what we are to him. A regular person,” other users agreed.
“King, I’m afraid Elon won’t respond to this tweet, the same way South African celebrities don’t respond to our tweets, but nice try,” nodded another.
“Respect the hierarchy, Elon won’t respond you, you won’t respond me, I won’t respond these ones,” another said pointing to the comments below theirs.
Some even pointed out that it was embarrassing for AKA to shoot his shot with Elon Musk. But hey, at this point we’ve all been left to our own devices (should we remember to charge them).
