The City’s enforcement agencies have escalated their operations, leading to the confiscation of over 4 500 litres of alcohol in December alone – more than half of which occurred in just the past week, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Between the 1st and 21st of December, the City’s liquor pound received 1 942.74 litres of alcohol, amounting to 4 201 units or bottles.
By the end of the month, however, that figure had surged to 4 634.69 litres (9 838 units), signalling a concerted effort by law enforcement teams to tackle the pressures of festive season excess.
During the recent enforcement blitz, a total of 264 arrests were made across various operations.
Law enforcement officers accounted for 155 arrests and issued 5 999 fines for differing violations.
Specifically, metro police conducted 52 arrests while handing out 3 166 notices for traffic and by-law infringements.
Furthermore, in an ongoing battle against illicit activities, officers recovered multiple firearms during their missions, including a pistol, a revolver, and an imitation firearm, while also impounding various quantities of drugs and alcohol.

One notable success came on the morning of the 29th December, when officers recovered a stolen vehicle in Macassar following a tip-off, leading to the arrest of a 42-year-old individual.
The road safety efforts have also been underscored by traffic officers who recorded 43 355 traffic violations, impounded 156 public transport vehicles, and executed 951 outstanding warrants of arrest.
The team made 57 arrests, primarily for drunk driving, while also addressing reckless and negligent driving cases.
This past weekend, the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre dispatched assistance for 1 850 incidents. Medical emergencies accounted for 40% of the calls received, showing the urgent need for responsive emergency services during this busy season.
The team also logged 119 fire incidents and a notable increase in 279 noise disturbance complaints, along with 29 reports of motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
Furthermore, the centre documented 132 assault cases, 59 domestic violence incidents, and 19 cases of self-harm.
With the festive season drawing near, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or criminal activities to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre at 021 480 7700.
