The arrest of an alleged extortionist in Mfuleni remains the focus of an active police investigation after officers uncovered a high-powered firearm at an informal settlement in Bosasa, Cape Town, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The alleged extortionist arrest operation unfolded on Friday as law enforcement intensified efforts to disrupt organised crime networks in the area.
Members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit, working alongside Provincial Crime Intelligence, entered a dwelling in the Bosasa informal settlement following information linked to extortion-related activities. During a search of the premises, officers discovered an R5 assault rifle loaded with 59 rounds of ammunition, as well as two rounds of .38 revolver ammunition.

The suspect was not found at the property at the time of the operation. Police confiscated the firearm and ammunition and registered an inquiry to determine ownership and possible links to criminal activity.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said officers are continuing to pursue leads. ‘The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are following up on information to locate the suspect and establish the origin of the firearm,’ Pojie said (ArriveAlive).
Police view the seizure as a significant step in reducing the threat of violence often linked to extortion in informal settlements, where residents and small businesses are frequently targeted.
The operation forms part of broader crime prevention efforts in Mfuleni, an area that has experienced persistent challenges related to illegal firearms and organised crime.
