Alleged Cape Town gang leader William Steven (56) was reportedly shot dead by three unknown suspects at his Kraaifontein home at about 6.35pm on Tuesday, February 2.

In a statement, SAPS spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the attack and said an investigation is underway, but would not name the victim.

“The circumstances surrounding the death of a 56-year-old man are being investigated after he was shot and killed at his residence in Rembrandt Street, Kraaifontein this evening. Three unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The identity of the victim cannot be disclosed at this premature stage,” he said.

Steven is the alleged leader of the 27s gang and is a co-accused in the murder of alleged steroid peddler Brain Wainstein alongside alleged underworld boss Mark Lifman and gang leader Jerome “Donkie” Booysen.

Some are concerned that this death may lead to further warfare in the area.

I pray for the innocent people staying there who’s lives are in danger.Cos they dnt care if they shoot bystanders.This coming weeks will be a war zone.Please God protect the innocent Especially the kids,” wrote on Facebook user.
