Over 100 jobs have become available with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Cape Town, thanks to the expansion of e commerce retail store Amazon as it plans to launch a special Africa Region in 2020 based in the Mother City.

Amazon first came to the Mother City in 2004 and the retail giant recently relocated to an eight-storey building in Cape Town to accommodate its AWS staff.

Roughly a year ago the jobs listed for the group were in the range of 50 positions, but this number has more than doubled with 118 positions available this month.

Some of the positions up for grabs include software developers, infrastructure managers, UX designers, data scientists, security experts, and support engineers.

Those with multilingual abilities are especially likely to land positions as the company is looking for individuals able to speak both Dutch and German.

All of the positions currently available are located in Cape Town and Amazon even offers a comprehensive relocation package as part of the offer if you are not currently a Mother City resident.

The latest expansion is part of Amazon’s plan to better cater to customers with their AWS which began in 2004 when the first invested in Cape Town properties.

In 2018 the company launched a number of infrastructure points in Cape Town and Johannesburg introducing Amazon CloudFront, Amazon Route 53, AWS Shield, and AWS WAF to the continent and adding to the 138 already existing points of presence AWS has around the world.

The new AWS addition in Cape Town will further enable the organisation to reduce latency for users across Sub-Saharan Africa and allow more African organisations to make better use of advanced technologies such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
