Western Cape residents are continuing to fight against animal cruelty, with recent reports of horse abuse in the Helderberg area being addressed thanks to concerned members of the community.

A video taken in Macassar and shared with the Animal Welfare Society (AWS) has outed the inappropriate treatment of horses on a plot in the area. The AWS has since addressed the abuse and taken action.

“We are aware of this incident. We have referred the matter to AWS Helderberg as they are the closest welfare and they are attending to this case,” said the AWS on their Facebook page.

They went on to than residents who actively report such instances and ensure those who can’t speak for themselves are heard.

“Thank you to those who notified us and continue to be the voice of the voiceless,” they added.

Horses in the Macassar are often terrorised by children, unaware of the consequences and gravity of animal abuse. AWS aims to change this in future and bring peace to equine populations in the area.
